Nikia Fletcher, Director of Career and College Readiness was recently recognized at the November 16 Board of Education meeting. For her commitment to the post-secondary needs of Mansfield City Schools students, she was honored with the Every Student, Every Day award for the month of November.
During the meeting, Nikia recognized six culinary arts students for their efforts in presenting at the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) Capital Conference in Columbus on November 8. During the conference, students along with Chef Bilke and Chef Golden presented spice packets and cookbooks along with a cake decorating demonstration.
It is opportunities like these and many others that Nikia has championed for during her time in the department.
“She has made it her mission to make our CTE programs grow and be a benefit to our student population,” said her nominator. “Nikia has connected with different businesses and community people to give our students the ability to make connections with the real world.”
Nikia’s most recent effort has led to the district being the recipient of the state sponsored Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) grant, estimated at $271,296 over the next seven years - totaling $1.89 million.
