Summer maintenance underway; Raemelton closed July 1-5

Head custodian Bruce Brewer looks down a hallway at Sherman Elementary School where furnishings have been stacked to allow cleaning of classrooms. Teachers are painting strips near the top of the walls in the hallways to add color throughout the building.

Mansfield City Schools’ Raemelton administration building will be closed July 1-5 to allow district maintenance and custodial staffs to complete annual cleaning and repairs.

Raemelton will reopen at 8 a.m. on Monday, July 8.

Summer work already is underway at all school buildings, where cleaning and waxing floors requires moving classroom furniture into hallways.

Mark Ward, maintenance team leader, said old wax is stripped from floors where needed before new wax is applied. Furniture, light fixtures and window sills are cleaned and any needed repairs are made to windows and doors.

At Springmill STEM Elementary School, 1200 Nestor Drive, four classrooms are being added. Two third-grade classrooms are being prepared to complete Springmill’s expansion to a K-3 building.

Pupil services director Jonathan Burras said pre-kindergarten classrooms at Springmill are being increased from six to eight to better serve district residents. The two additional classrooms are the first rooms in the science galleries wing.

Before students return on Aug. 22 Ward and his staff will set up classrooms for new teachers or teachers reassigned to other buildings.
