Gummere set to begin interim treasurer role

Trevor R. Gummere met with board of education president Renda Cline and Superintendent Brian Garverick Thursday to discuss his upcoming role as the district’s interim treasurer.

When Trevor Gummere begins work Sept. 1 as Mansfield City Schools’ interim treasurer it won’t be the first time that he has served in a temporary capacity.

Gummere, the fulltime treasurer of Mount Gilead Exempted Village Schools, also served double duty last year as interim treasurer of Pleasant Local Schools in Marion.

On Monday the MCS board hired Gummere to function as interim treasurer from Sept. 1 to Dec. 31 while a search for a permanent treasurer is conducted.

“I will be glad to work through the process with the board, the superintendent and the treasurer’s office staff here to assure that business gets done,” Gummere said Thursday during a visit to the Raemelton administration building.

Board of education president Renda Cline and Superintendent Brian Garverick introduced Gummere to staff at Raemelton.

Gummere will be paid $50 an hour for work as needed during his four-month tenure. The contract acknowledges that he will continue his fulltime commitment at Mount Gilead, which means that his service to Mansfield may require him to work outside normal business hours and at non-school district locations.

He will not receive health insurance coverage here but will be paid mileage at the prevailing IRS rate for use of his personal vehicle in connection with school business.

A licensed treasurer since 2003, Gummere served in that capacity at St. Clairsville-Richland Schools, Ridgewood Local Schools and Norwood City Schools before going to Mount Gilead in November 2009.

He has a BS degree in business administration from Bowling Green State University and is pursuing a master’s degree in school treasurer/business manager at Tiffin University.

The MCS board also voted this week to employ the Ohio School Boards Association to conduct the district’s search for qualified treasurer candidates. The person eventually selected will succeed retiring treasurer Rosetta Stephens.
