Tyger seniors sign college football letters

Four members of Mansfield Senior High School’s highly successful 2013 football team signed letters of intent Wednesday to play at a college and two universities.

From left in the photo above are Tarance Brooks and Malon Samuel, Malone College; Chek Washington, Ohio University, and Traevon Dickerson, Ashland University.

National signing day was Feb. 5 but schools were closed by severe weather. Wednesday’s delayed signing ceremony was held in the office at Senior High.

The Tygers, coached by Chioke Bradley, were undefeated in the regular season and Ohio Cardinal Conference champions before finishing 11-1. The 11 wins were the most in 117 seasons of football at Mansfield Senior.

As reported by the Mansfield News Journal, the 2013 Tygers were the first undefeated Senior High team since 1941 and the first unbeaten and untied team since 1931. The 450 points the Tygers scored last season are a school record.
