Happily ever after at Fairy Tale Ball

Sherman teacher Amy Bradley watches a group of first-graders enjoy cake and fruit juice during their Fairy Tale Ball.

There were princesses – lots of princesses –at Sherman Elementary School Friday afternoon.

The sign at the door of Room 32 greeted visitors with “Welcome to Happily Ever After.”

Inside, first-graders celebrated the conclusion of a unit on fairy tales by dressing as their favorite characters for a Fairy Tale Ball. Teachers Amy Bradley and Tonya Bishop planned the event with the help of parents and volunteers.

“Every week we have a “fun Friday” that is tied into something we’ve been learning about,” Bishop said. “We’ve been studying the elements of a fairy tale and comparing and contrasting different versions of fairy tales.”

Students also worked on story writing and wrote invitations to their families for Friday’s ball. Several parents and grandparents attended.

Bishop cited the contributions of volunteers, including Moose Lodge 422 at Shelby whose members provided cake, cookies and fruit juice.
