Tygers, Rams will vy for Spaghetti Bowl title

Mansfield Senior High Tyger football fans have an opportunity to back their team and help two charities. All they need are forks and napkins.

Tickets are on sale for the first “Richland County Children Services Spaghetti Bowl,” a charity pasta dinner scheduled during the week of the annual Mansfield Senior-Madison cross-town football rivalry.

The dinner will be on Monday, Oct. 27, in the Mansfield Senior High commons. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $7 in advance and at the door. Children 6 and under may attend for free.

Tickets are available at Wendy’s restaurants at 1145 Ashland Road in Madison Township and 1372 Lexington Ave. in Mansfield and at the United Way of Richland County offices, 35 Park Street North.

Proceeds will benefit two charities. Senior High has selected the United Way of Richland County, while Madison has designated the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.

The Tygers and Rams will meet at 7 p.m. on Oct. 31 at the new Ram Field at StarTek Stadium. On the field after the game, a “Spaghetti Bowl” championship trophy will be presented to the winning team. The winning team’s charity will receive 75 percent of the dinner proceeds, while the losing team’s charity will receive 25 percent.

On the night of the dinner members of the two teams and coaching staffs will arrive around 7 p.m., depending on their practice schedules. A brief program around 7:30 p.m. will feature remarks by Tygers coach Chioke Bradley, Rams coach Sean Conway and veteran players from both teams.

The dinner will conclude between 8 and 8:15 p.m.
