Choirs offer Haunted Harmonies as a Halloween treat

Vocal music director Dirk Eachus appears a bit uncertain about some of the participants in the Haunted Harmonies choir concert scheduled for Oct. 31 at Senior High. From left are Jasaya Harris, Abygale Wilcox and Keeley Weese.

It’s been 58 years since “The Purple People Eater” topped the Billboard charts but the lyrics describing the one-eyed, one-horned flying creature will echo through the Senior High auditorium on Halloween night.

That novelty favorite and a dozen other numbers will be on the program when the Mansfield Senior High and Mansfield Middle School choirs present “Haunted Harmonies.”

The Oct. 31 concert – free and open to the public – will begin at 7 p.m. Donations to the vocal music department will be accepted.

“We will sing some spooky numbers and many favorites that we believe everyone will enjoy,” said vocal music director Dirk Eachus. “It’s going to be a fun evening. We hope kids who attend will come in costume.”

The program will include “Phantom of the Opera,” “Zombie Jamboree,” “Thriller,” “Ghostbusters,” “Monster Mash” and “Puttin’ on the Ritz.”

Also on tap: “This is Halloween,” “Jack’s Lament,” “Have You Seen the Ghost of John?,” “I’m in Love with a Monster,” “Time Warp,” and “Witch Doctor.”
