Sun didn't shine but the smiles did at Woodland

First-graders Reginold Oliver and Aamirah Cline stand with the bicycles they won in a random drawing at Woodland Elementary School.

Threatening skies forced an end-of-the-year cookout indoors Tuesday at Woodland Elementary School but it was fun just the same.

The indoor picnic, sponsored by the district’s food service department, featured hamburgers, baked beans, fresh fruit, fruit slushies and milk.

Several students won basketballs, soccer balls and top-of-the-line jump ropes in drawings after each lunch group. First-graders Aamirah Cline and Reginold Oliver won bicycles when their names were drawn for the grand prizes. The Mansfield Police Department donated helmets.

The prizes were acquired by food service manager Jane Fortman and assistant manager Lauren Ellsworth by using rebates earned from food service vendors during the year.

Indoor picnics were served earlier this month at the Spanish Immersion School and Sherman Elementary. The final cookout will be Thursday at Prospect Elementary.
