Freshman attendance, grades, behavior = skating party

Senior High freshmen gather for a group photo before leaving SK8 Factory in Bucyrus.
More than 70 Mansfield Senior High freshmen enjoyed a roller skating outing at SK8 Factory in Bucyrus on April 20. The field trip wasn’t given to them; they earned it.

“Not all of our freshmen were able to attend the skating party – only those who have good attendance, good grades and good behavior,” said Freshman Academy Principal Andrew Schiefer. “These reward field trips are offered to all students and are an incentive for our freshman class to do well in school.”

Earlier this year students who qualified enjoyed a trip to a bowling alley.

Students left Senior High with thick socks for their skates and packed lunches provided by the food service department. Some had never skated but there was a lot of helping each other around the rink to the music of requested songs.

The freshmen left the rink spotless and the owners of SK8 Factory said they would be welcomed back anytime because of their good behavior.

“We want to encourage all of our students to do well in school so they, in turn, can enjoy these types of outings,” Schiefer said.
