Woodland Family Involvement Plan
PART I. GENERAL EXPECTATIONS
Woodland Elementary School will conduct an annual parent meeting on October 30, 2012
The presentation will include:
- Woodland Family Involvement Policy will be reviewed and adopted
- Report Card, School and District data will be shared
- Title I Programs Descriptions explained
- Title I Needs Assessment shared
- Literacy program/curriculum shared
- Volunteers requested
- Invitation extended for parent classroom observation
PART II. Description of how Woodland will implement required school parent involvement policy/plan components:
1. Woodland School will act to involve parents in the joint development of the school parental involvement plan through:
- Parents will be invited to the Annual Parent Meeting on Literacy Night.
- Notices/Invitations to attend in monthly newsletter
- The following will happen at the meeting:
- Present Woodland School's Family Involvement Policy and Plan
- Parents invited to make comments and/or suggestions to the policy and plan
- Woodland School's Family Involvement Policy and Plan will be approved
2. Woodland School will take the following action to involve parents in the process of school review and improvement:- The following will occur at the Annual Parent Meeting:
- Woodland Family Involvement Policy will be reviewed and adopted
- Report card, School and District data will be shared
- Title One Programs descriptions explained
- Title One Needs Assessment shared
- Volunteers Signup sheets available
- Invitation extended for parent classroom observation
- Parent Evaluation forms will be availablefor activites throughout the year
3. Woodland School will inform parents of the school's participation in Title One programs.
- At Annual Parent Meeting:
- Title One Programs Descriptions explained
- Title One Needs Assessment shared
- Literacy program/curriculum shared
- Volunteers requested
- Invitation extended for parent classroom observation
- Letters sent home to parents at the beginning of Title One interventions explaining the intervention.
4. Woodland school will provide parents/children participating in the Title One programs information in a timely manner about Title One programs that include description and explanation of the school's curriculum, academic expectations, and assessments.
- Open House
- Parent-Teacher Conferences
- Grade Cards
- Meeting for 3rd grade parents to explain the OAA which will be scheduled in February or March
5. Woodland School will provide opportunities to formulate suggestions and to participate in decisions about the education of their children:
- Conferences
- Teacher send notes and make phone calls to parents to communicate whenever necessary
- Reading Intervention teatchers (Title One) send home program descriptions/permission letters to explain the selection of children for interventions
- Reading Intervention teatchers (Title One) extend invitations to parents to oberve a Reading Recovery and LLI Lessons
- Gather feedback from parents annually about the school, staff, and famil involvement activities
6. Woodland School will provide each parent an individual student report about the performance of their child on assessments:- Grade cards and/or interims sent home to parents eight times per school year
- Letters to parents by september 30th if students ar not "on track" in reading at the beginning of the school year
- Letters to parents to inform them concerning results of OAA
- Title One Reports are sent home to all Reading Recovery and Leveled Literacy Intervention Students informing parents of student progress
- Information shared at parent-teacher conferences
7. Woodland School will take the following action to provide each parent timely notice when their child has been assigned or has been taught for four (4) or more consecutive weeks be a teacher who is not H.Q.T.
- All Woodland School teachers are 100% H.Q.T.
- District policy requires that a letter is sent home to parents of students who receive instructionvia non H.Q.T.
8. Woodland School will provide assistance to parents in understanding the following:- Common Core Content Standards
- Achievement Expectations
- State and local assessment
- Monitoring student progress
- Interventions to help at risk students and parental roles within that intervention
- Things to do at home to help all students succeed
- Woodland School will provide the following Family Involvement Activities in support of curriculum and student achievement
- Open House (9/20)
- Author Shea Megale visit (10/9)
- Mystery Mansion Literacy Night (10//30)
- Parent-Teacher Conferences (11/8, 11/13, 2/21, 2/26)
- Christmas Program (12/18)
- Winter Wonderland Math Night (1/24)
- Grandparents Lunch (2/25-2/28)
- Pancake Adventures, Flippin' With Dad (3/6)
- Spring Music Programs (3/19, 5/14, 5/18)
- OAA Pep Rally (5/3)
- Fashion Frenzy (5/9)
- Woodland Lawn Fete (5/31)
- Third Grade Graduation (6/3)
9. Woodland School will provide materials and training to help parents work with their children to improve achievement by:
- Teacher suggestions at conferences
- Reading Recovery parent meetings
- Reading Recovery and LLI parents are invited to literacy training and/or observation of lessons so they will be able to help students at home
10. Woodland School will educate it's teachers, pupil services personnel, and other staff in how to treach out to, communicate with and work with parents as equal partners in the value of utility of parents. Will implement and coordinate parent programs and build ties between parents and schools by:
- Woodland School will provide staff with Professional Development to build staff's understanding of good family involvement.
- Woodland School staff will work together to provide Prefessional Development opportinities to explore the value of good family involvement and then take steps to achieve determined goals.
11. Woodland School will attempt to coordinate and integrate parental involvement programs and activites with Preschool, Head Start, and other such programs where appropriate:
- Kindergarten teachers have a delayed start to transition sudents and parents into kindergarten from preschool
- Woodland School will communicate with district personnel to ensure that activities, meetings and trainings are publicized to parents and the community
12. Woodland School will take the following actions to ensure that information related to the school and parent-programs, meetings and other activities is sent to parents of participating children in an understandable and uniform format, including alternative formats upon request, and to the extent practicable, in a language the parents can understand:- Notice of activities in School and Classroom Newsletters
- Notices go home multiple times and on colored paper to draw more attention to them
- Students sometimes write personal invitations to parents as an authentic learning exercise
